The Three Kids Mine was an open-pit manganese mine discovered in Clark County, Nevada in 1917. During its early years of operation, which coincided with World War I, manganese from the mine was used in military weapons and equipment.

2010年1月20日 · During World War I the Three Kids Mine, the remains of which are visible southeast of Sunrise Mountain, was producing manganese ore. Harry (Frehner) hauled the ore to the Las Vegas rail yards behind a 10-horse team pulling three heavy-duty freight wagons and a feed cart, hooked one behind the other.

The Three Kids Mine site is located south of the Lake Las Vegas community, and about five miles northeast of Henderson, Nevada along Lake Mead Parkway.

Once part of the backbone of America’s defense efforts, the former Three Kids Mine and Mill in Henderson, Nevada has been abandoned for decades. Thanks to a public-private partnership, a robust cleanup effort will transform the site into a new residential community with 3,000 homes.
