Sep 22, 2018 · The heart of the Cord was the front-wheel-drive system, pioneered by Harry Miller on the American champ car race circuit. Cord was so enamored with this revolutionary system that he bought the patent rights from Miller, and an early L-29 prototype took shape in Miller’s Los Angeles race car shop.

The 812 saw the addition of a notable 170 hp supercharged version that featured distinctive chromed external exhaust pipes. Due to the poor sales of Cord cars, many 810 cars were re-numbered and sold as 812s. Production of the Cord 812 ended in 1937, when the Cord Corporation folded.

This 1937 Cord Beverly 812 is a supercharged model from late in the original run of Cord 810/812 series cars produced in 1936 and ’37. This example was taken to Hawaii some time before the Second World War, and was reportedly on Oahu during the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
