155 mm (6.1 in) is a NATO -standard artillery shell caliber that is used in many field guns, howitzers, and gun-howitzers. It is defined in AOP-29 part 1 with reference to STANAG 4425. The 155 mm (6.1 in) caliber originated in France after the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871).

The 155 mm gun M1 was a 155 millimeter caliber field gun developed and used by the United States military. Nicknamed "Long Tom" (an appellation with a long and storied history in U.S. field and naval artillery), it was produced in M1 and M2 variants, later known as the M59.

The Next Generation 155mm Artillery Ammunition Family will include three new projectiles, the XM1113 High Explosive Rocket Assist Projectile, the XM1122E1 High Explosive Projectile and the XM1128 High Explosive Base Bleed.

After World War II, it was redesignated as the Howitzer, Medium, Towed: 155 mm, M114, with the complete system composed of the cannon (M1 or M1A1), carriage (M1A1), and recoil system (M6, M6A1, M6B1 or M6B2).
