Difference between 10B21 and 10B22 steel 1 - Eng-Tips
2006年1月3日 · In the North American fastener industry, 10B21 has become the standard low carbon Boron-containing grade used for quenching & tempering. 1022 is usually produced without Boron. ASTM F 2282 (almost identical to IFI-140) has requirements for 10B21, 1022/A, and 1022/B, with the latter two differing slightly in C and Mn limits.
10B21 Steel Hardening - Metal and Metallurgy engineering - Eng …
2002年2月18日 · We cold form, carburize and austemper pinions for automotive starters with great success using 10B21. Carburized, austempered surface hardnesses are typically in the 54-56 HRC range, while core hardness is 41-46 HRC.
Is 10B21 steel equivalent to AISI 1020-1030 steels? 2 - Eng-Tips
2010年2月11日 · A Chinese supplier is telling me that 10B21 steel is equivalent material to AISI 1020-1030 steel. My material lab tells me that the chem analysis indicates that the material is AISI 1021. My customer specifies AISI 1020- 1030 material and I'm concerned about providing what he specified. Thanks in advance for your help.
Effect of Heat Treating 4140 vs 10B21 Steel 1 - Eng-Tips
2001年7月11日 · We have a part which was specified as a 10B21 steel, to be heat treated to a Rockwell C of 28-37. Instead we got a 4140 steel heat treated (although to 42 HRC). If the 4140 was heat treated to 28-37 would there be any significant different in mechanical properties (notably ultimate tensile...

Boron Steel for Grade 5 Bolts 1 - Eng-Tips
2006年11月8日 · Thanks for your input. I received grade 5 cap screws from our supplier and when I checked the Material Test Report, the products were made from 10B21 boron steel but the head marking is still with grade 5 not 5.2. The products passed the mechanical testing equivalent to grade 5 as per SAE J429.
Proof Load Stress and Tensile Yield Strength in 10.9 Steel 1
2007年4月30日 · I'm a little confused why a steel mill would be having difficulty quoting a grade of steel for a property class 10.9 fastener. Typical grades are 10B21 for small fasteners, 4037 or 4140 medium sizes, and heavily alloyed grades for really large sizes (greater than M36).
Steel Suggestion for Non-Heat Treated Fasteners 4 - Eng-Tips
2013年1月3日 · Below are some links that you can review for more detailed information. Basically the steels that have been developed for non-heat treated high strength steel fasteners consist of mixed microstructures (ferrite + martensite or so called dual phase, ferrite + pearlite, ultra low carbon bainite) that strain harden considerably during cold forming.

Difference between 10.9 and SAE grade 8 - Eng-Tips
2009年7月15日 · Both Metric class 10.9 and U.S. spec grade 5 are quenched and tempered for the heat treatment. The 10.9 class will utilize a low alloy steel (with some exceptions) ; the grade 5 is carbon steel. Take a look at SAE J429 and 1199 sometime--this will explain it all.
