2006年1月3日 · In the North American fastener industry, 10B21 has become the standard low carbon Boron-containing grade used for quenching & tempering. 1022 is usually produced without Boron. ASTM F 2282 (almost identical to IFI-140) has requirements for 10B21, 1022/A, and 1022/B, with the latter two differing slightly in C and Mn limits.

I received grade 5 cap screws from our supplier and when I checked the Material Test Report, the products were made from 10B21 boron steel but the head marking is still with grade 5 not 5.2. The products passed the mechanical testing equivalent to grade 5 as per SAE J429.

2007年4月30日 · I'm a little confused why a steel mill would be having difficulty quoting a grade of steel for a property class 10.9 fastener. Typical grades are 10B21 for small fasteners, 4037 or 4140 medium sizes, and heavily alloyed grades for really large sizes (greater than M36).

Basically the steels that have been developed for non-heat treated high strength steel fasteners consist of mixed microstructures (ferrite + martensite or so called dual phase, ferrite + pearlite, ultra low carbon bainite) that strain harden considerably during cold forming.

2009年7月15日 · Both Metric class 10.9 and U.S. spec grade 5 are quenched and tempered for the heat treatment. The 10.9 class will utilize a low alloy steel (with some exceptions) ; the grade 5 is carbon steel. Take a look at SAE J429 and 1199 sometime--this will explain it all.
