The Temple of Olympian Zeus (Ancient Greek: Ναὸς τοῦ Ὀλυμπίου Διός, Naós tou Olympíou Diós), also known as the Olympieion or Columns of the Olympian Zeus, is a colossal temple in the centre of Athens, now in ruins.

2015年8月18日 · The Temple of Olympian Zeus in Athens, also known as the Olympieion, was built over several centuries starting in 174 BCE and only finally completed by Roman emperor Hadrian in 131 CE. Its unusually tall columns and ambitious layout made the temple one of the largest ever built in the ancient world.

The Olympeion was the largest ancient temple on the Greek mainland—a rectangular structure almost 100 metres long and nearly 50 metres wide. It was laid around 515 BC by Peisistratis the Younger on the foundations of a smaller temple. Most of its original 104 columns were dismantled or destroyed as the site was used as a quarry in medieval times.
