Heraclitus (/ ˌ h ɛr ə ˈ k l aɪ t ə s /; Ancient Greek: Ἡράκλειτος Hērákleitos; fl. c. 500 BC) was an ancient Greek pre-Socratic philosopher from the city of Ephesus, which was then part of the Persian Empire.
