The Gracie family (Portuguese:) is a family of martial artists originally from Belém, state of Pará, Brazil, whose ancestors came from Paisley, Scotland.

2023年6月20日 · The father of Carlos and Helio Gracie, the founders of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a third-generation descendant of said George Gracie. Let’s call these the seeds of the Gracie family tree, as we are interested in the Jiu Jitsu-related part of the family’s history.

The Gracie family story begins with George Gracie, who emigrated from Scotland to Brazil. It is his son Gastão Gracie , who was the father of Carlos Gracie and who arranged for Carlos to study classical Japanese Jiu-Jitsu with the former Japanese champion, Mitsuyo Maeda (known in Brazil as Conde Koma , the "Count of Combat").

2021年11月18日 · Named after his father, Gastão Gracie Jr learned Jiu Jitsu from his brother Carlos Sr. He would go into business with his brothers to open the first Gracie Jiu Jitsu academy in the 1920s.

The Gracie Brothers, Carlos Gracie, Helio Gracie, Gastao Gracie, George Gracie and Oswald Gracie created Gracie Jiu-Jitsu almost 100 years ago.

2022年5月3日 · Carlos Gracie (Gracie’s eldest son) was enthralled with the techniques he saw and wanted to become Maeda’s student. So in return for helping him on his mission, Maeda taught Judo to Carlos, Carlos then taught the art to his four brothers (Oswaldo, Gastão Jr, George, and Hélio).
