The Fallas (Valencian: Falles; Spanish: Fallas) is a traditional celebration held annually in commemoration of Saint Joseph in the city of Valencia, Spain. The five main days celebrated are from 15 to 19 March, [ 1 ] [ 2 ] while the Mascletà, a pyrotechnic spectacle of firecracker detonation, takes place every day from 1 to 19 March.

The name of the act come from “masclet”, the type of fireworks that explode with a loud noise when the Fallera Mayor declares “Senyor pirótecnic pot començar la mascletà” (“Mr. Pyrotechnic, the mascletà can start now”).

Today, the fallas are created by teams of artists known as artista falleros, who spend months designing and building the structures out of polystyrene foam and other modern materials.
