The Sangheili (Macto cognatus in Latin taxonomy, meaning "I glorify my kin") are a saurian sapient species known for their warrior culture and combat skill.

The Sangheili [5] [6] (Macto cognatus, [7] "I glorify my kin"), known to humans as Elites, [8] are a saurian [9] species of strong, proud, and intelligent warriors, as well as skilled combat tacticians. The Sangheili are named after their home planet, Sanghelios.

Sangheili describes multiple dialects of a language spoken by the species of the same name. Though the member species of the Covenant had their own unique languages, an advanced dialect of Sangheili, known as basic Sangheili, came to serve as the lingua franca throughout the entire Covenant Empire.

First introduced in Halo: Reach, Sangheili Generals are the equivalent to the Jiralhanae War Chieftain. Like other high ranking members in the Covenant, Sangheili Generals tend to wield superior weaponry and tend to apply more advanced battle tactics in the field, they are also more likely to employ equipment such as armor lock .

Sangheili are the generals of the Covenant military, the longtime guards of the Prophets, and the first race to join the Prophets in the Covenant. They stand between seven and eight feet tall, although they hunch over in combat which makes them appear closer to human size.

Otherwise known as Elites, Sangheili are one of the commanding species in the Covenant forces in the halo_(series). They are an alien species with two toes, four fingers, double-jointed legs (sometimes depicted as digitigrade or unguligrade), and a set of four mandibles.
