I agree with Beryl about "like" and her interpetation -- they want to know if it's large or small, friendly or impersonal, what sort of people and buildings and history and industry your hometown has, and anything else you can think of to describe your hometown, good or bad.

2007年5月19日 · According to the dictionary, "hometown" has two meanings: where you grew up, and where you are from. For many people, those are two different places. They can call either one your "hometown", or they can avoid using the word "hometown", and say "I am from MyCityNow" and "I grew up in ThatTownThen". If a term doesn't fit you, don't use it.

I'm not American but I think you would consider your home town and home state the town and state in which you were born (but only if you effectively grew up there: if you moved around as a child or left it when you were very young it becomes difficult to think of it as your home town/state, in my view) and your state of residence is where you live with your family.
