2023年11月9日 · Yeah Townes being gay was kind of a coop out. If you really pay attention, you learn he is gay in Vegas when his ‘friend’ came in to get something right before Townes and Beth were about to kiss. Townes’s reaction denotes his friend busted him and he acted like a guilty lover rather than two guys just merely sharing a room.

I really didn’t see it as Beth making any advances towards Townes, she was clearly feeling the tension that Townes himself was feeling too. He acknowledged that she was beautiful, he was the one who moved closer to her and touched her hair, if his boyfriend hadn’t come in, I’d say they would have kissed.

If you saw my previous post asking about different perspectives thank you for all your responses. I'm still writing my paper on The Queen's Gambit and I'm currently struggling with understanding Townes and what he is supposed to represent in the story. Specifically, what does he represent in both the novel and the Netflix adaptation?

2020年11月18日 · The show and the book are different in terms of Beth's relationship with men. I don't recall the book implied that Townes was gay. In the book, Townes was simply not interested in her. That is why she just moved on. However, the show portrayed Townes as being unsure about being bi. There are hints that he was interested.

- Townes sounds exactly like Henry Cavill, even looks a bit like him - there is a scene towards the end where she connects with her past that is perhaps the best in the entire series. And was a turning point for her.
