State Route 55 (SR 55) is an 18-mile (30-km) long north–south state highway that passes through suburban Orange County in the U.S. state of California. The portion of the route built to freeway standards is known as the Costa Mesa Freeway (formerly the Newport Freeway ).

SR-55 is a vital north-south freeway that links central Orange County and beyond to the coastal region. More than 260,000 vehicles use this stretch of SR-55 every day, and that number is expected to grow to nearly 275,000 vehicles by 2040.

OCTA, in cooperation with Caltrans, is improving 4 miles of SR-55 between I-405 and I-5. The project will improve traffic flow and reduce travel time by adding one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction. The Costa Mesa Freeway (SR-55) is one of the most heavily congested freeways in Southern California.

State Road 55 (SR 55) is a north–south road in Northern and Central Indiana. State Road 55 runs from the Crawfordsville area in the south to Gary in the north, a distance of approximately 110 miles (180 km). SR 55 southern terminus is at an intersection with State Road 25 (SR 25).

The State Route 55 (SR-55) Multi-Asset Project has combined a multi-asset project and a safety project. The roadway improvement includes pavement rehabilitation; improved drainage, lighting and conduits; bridge rail rehabilitation; landscape; Treatment BMP; solar system technology; and overhead sign panels and overhead sign structures.

The SR-55 serves as a vital link to other major freeway systems within Orange County, and it is the only freeway providing a direct north-south connection between Central Orange County and the Coastal Region.

During 2023, OCTA and Caltrans made significant progress on the SR-55 (I-405 to I-5) Improvement Project. Three partially demolished bridges are being reconstructed, more than half of the 18 retaining walls are under construction, and new drainage systems are being installed including the more than 3,100-foot-long Lane Channel.
