The Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk is a high-altitude, remotely-piloted surveillance aircraft introduced in 2001. It was initially designed by Ryan Aeronautical (now part of Northrop Grumman), and known as Tier II+ during development.

The aircraft are equipped with a multi-platform radar technology insertion programme (MP-RTIP) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) ground surveillance radar sensors, as well as an extensive suite of line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight, long-range, wideband data links.

The RQ-4D Phoenix is based on the United States Air Force RQ-4 Block 40, enhanced to meet specific NATO AGS Forces interoperability and communications requirements. Acquired by 15 NATO allies, it will share intelligence with all 32 NATO nations.

SAN DIEGO – April 7, 2022 – Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC), NATO’s Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS) RQ-4D Phoenix Global Hawk has reached a major milestone with the NATO AGS Management Agency (NAGSMA)’s Full System Handover to the NATO AGS Force (NAGSF) at the Main Operating Base, Sigonella, Sicily.
