Michael John Scriven (/ ˈ s k r ɪ v ən /; 28 March 1928 – 28 August 2023) was a British-born Australian polymath and academic philosopher, best known for his contributions to the theory and practice of evaluation.

It is organized to honor one of the founders and most prolific contributors to the profession and transdiscipline of evaluation -- Professor Michael Scriven, and to illuminate the future of evaluation in society.

Michael Scriven, PhD, is a professor of psychology at Claremont Graduate University, where he is also co-director of the Claremont Evaluation Center. He has two degrees in mathematics and two doctorates–one in philosophy from Oxford, and an honorary one in educational research from the University of Melbourne.
