As the supply of M121 bombs dwindled, the USAF developed the Bomb Live Unit-82/B (BLU-82/B) as a replacement. Weighing a total of 15,000 pounds, the BLU-82/B was essentially a large thin-walled tank (1/4-inch steel plate) filled with a 12,600-pound explosive "slurry" mixture.

M-121 is a state trunkline highway in West Michigan. The highway follows Chicago Drive, a local roadway, from Zeeland to Grandville. Chicago Drive itself runs past the M-121 segment on either side from Holland to Wyoming. The roadway passes through rural farmland on a route that runs parallel to Interstate 196 (I-196).

As I understand it, the M121 10,000-lb bomb, was developed for the B-36 but never used. Consequently, they had been retained in storage. The idea to drop them from B-52s in Vietnam was circulated, but the cost of putting fins on to stabilize them during the drop proved to be to costly, and that project was dropped.

2024年6月16日 · While the present M-121 is Michigan's newer state trunkline designations, it runs along a route which has been on the trunkline system since 1922—a portion of which actually dates to 1913! It also uses a designation which has occupied two other routings over the years.
