The Honeywell T55 (formerly Lycoming; company designation LTC-4) is a turboshaft engine used on American helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft (in turboprop form) since the 1950s, and in unlimited hydroplanes since the 1980s.

The next-generation T55 is a 6,000-shp class engine and is easier to maintain with lower operating costs and increased readiness for the warfighter. It also doubles the operating range for ‘high, hot and heavy’ missions at max payload.

The T55 turboshaft also came out of the Lycoming Turbine Engine Division in Stratford, Connecticut, and has operated for over 60 years. Developed by Dr. Anselm Franz, creator of the WWII Junkers Jumo 004 turbojet, the T55 powers the CH-47 Chinook and is currently produced by Honeywell Aerospace.

2024年9月21日 · The T55-L-5 was rated at 1,870 shaft horsepower at 14,430 r.p.m. N2. It was 3 feet, 8.1 inches (1.120 meters) long and weighed 560 pounds (254 kilograms). The helicopter had a maximum speed of 153 knots (176 miles per hour/283 kilometers per hour) at Sea Level.

The first T55 produced 1,600 shaft horsepower (SHP), after several decades and generations of development, the lastest variant -714 now offers 4,800 SHP and powers the Chinook to a maximum speed of 196 mph / 170 knots.
