The UCLA Latino Policy & Politics Institute addresses the most critical domestic policy challenges facing Latinos and other communities of color through research, advocacy, mobilization, and leadership development to expand genuine opportunity for all Americans.

The UCLA Latino Policy & Politics Institute (LPPI) supports culturally and linguistically competent policy reforms, holds decision-makers accountable to the needs of communities of color, and provides a framework for local and state interventions across the U.S. that reflect the needs of the nation’s new majority.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic put a painful spotlight on the fatal consequences of health inequities, unequal access to healthcare was a top concern for UCLA LPPI. Using data and research, UCLA LPPI’s health experts are guiding policymakers toward approaches that expand access to quality, culturally competent healthcare.

UCLA LPPI puts its research and academic expertise to work to inform evidence-based policy reforms at the federal, state, and local levels that expand opportunity for all Americans.

UCLA LPPI’s core function as an applied research institute is designed to inform evidence-based policy and improve governance. UCLA LPPI strives to disseminate the findings and insights from our work widely across a diverse array of channels for widespread public consumption.

UCLA LPPI is a local organization with national reach, providing UCLA students with the unique opportunity to engage with leading civil rights groups, elected officials, philanthropic leaders, members of the media, and other cross-sector partners across the United States.

UCLA LPPI fellows are equipped with technical skills and hands-on experiences critical to being transformational elected officials, organizational leaders and community allies of today and tomorrow.
