Luminous infrared galaxies or LIRGs are galaxies with luminosities, the measurement of brightness, above 10 11 L☉. They are also referred to as submillimeter galaxies (SMGs) through their normal method of detection.
GOALS
The sample consists of nearly 180 Luminous Infrared Galaxies (LIRGs) with luminosities above 10 11 L ☉ as well as 22 Ultra-Luminous Infrared Galaxies (ULIRGs) with luminosities above 10 12 L ☉.
