2024年9月9日 · The IS-6 was planned from November 1943 under the leadership of the NKTP, Stalin. Preliminary design began in early December 1943 and continued at the Kirov Plant until the summer of 1944.

Factory #100 (comrades Kotin, Yermolayev) jointly with TsNII-48 (comrades Zavyanov, Kapyrin) developed a draft project of the IS-6 heavy tank, which has significant advantages in terms of armour compared to the IS-2 mass produced tank.

IS-6 heavy tank. The IS-6 was a Soviet heavy tank built as a breakthrough tank. The first prototype, the Object 253, overheated too much and required too much copper therefor cancelled.

Developed in the summer of 1944 by the Construction Bureau of the Kirov Plant (Leningrad). In the fall of the same year, the prototype underwent trials. It never entered mass production nor saw service.
