You can lock the system by coming to a stop, and engaging the VTM-4 button. But that only stays locked up to about 15 or 20 mph. The switchover from 2WD to 4WD is seamless and works extremely well.

The 2009-2015 Pilot starts out in AWD at 0 mph always and decreases torque to the rear wheels the more you accelerate and is fully Front-Wheel-Drive once you reach 12 mph. This is because Honda believes we need traction the most from 0-12 mph.
