Steeped in history, the Town takes its name from a colonial-era fort built by the British and a grist mill on nearby Steele Creek. The Catawba Indians made their home here for many years. Scotch-Irish settlers began arriving in the 1750s and 1760s and a small settlement soon developed.

The Town of Fort Mill (established 1873) is located just south of the state line shared with North Carolina. Our closest neighbors are Rock Hill, SC, to the south and Charlotte, NC, to the north. Approximately 12,000 people live inside the Town's corporate limits with a total of nearly 50,000 people residing within the entire Township.

From our MLK Call to Service Week in January to our patriotic Independence Day Celebration, from our exciting summer concerts to our annual Lighting of the Tree event in December, the Town of Fort Mill has an event for everyone!

Our vision is safe, healthy, and sustainable Fort Mill waterways that can be enjoyed by everyone. Utilities. The Town of Fort Mill Utilities Department provides water and sanitary sewer services to approximately metered water and sewer customers and a service population of approximately 13,000 people in the Town of Fort Mill.

The annual pageants kicked off Fort Mill’s SC Strawberry Festival month of events, which will culminate on May 4, 2024 with the 15th Annual SC Strawberry Festival. Up first to face the four-judge panel were 45 Little Miss contestants who competed with both fun and formal outfits.

The Fort Mill Municipal Court proceedings are held at the Fort Mill Council Chambers, located at 112 Confederate Street, Fort Mill, South Carolina 29715. Municipal Court sessions are scheduled on Wednesdays at 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM .
