Buddy Holly recorded under several names and with several different backing bands. The Crickets played on almost all of his singles in 1957 and 1958. [1] Holly recorded prolifically before his death in a plane crash on February 3, 1959. He released three albums in his lifetime.

In September 1957, as the band toured, "That'll Be the Day" topped the US and UK singles charts. Its success was followed in October by another major hit, " Peggy Sue ". The album The "Chirping" Crickets, released in November 1957, reached number five on the UK Albums Chart.

Buddy Holly is the debut solo studio album by Buddy Holly. It was released by Coral Records on February 20, 1958. The album, featuring a rare photo of Holly without his trademark glasses on the front cover, collects Holly's four hit singles released on the Coral label; "Words of Love", "Peggy Sue", "I'm Gonna Love You Too", and "Rave On!".
