Upon leaving Greenbank Station, our train crosses the Red Clay Creek for the first time and passes Greenbank Mills & Philips Farm, the only surviving mill along our route.There were dozens of mills along our tracks in the late 1800s, and the Wilmington & Western was built to move goods between the mills and the Port of Wilmington.

What started in 1867 as a transportation route for freight and passengers, has become one of Delaware's leading tourist attractions. Our passengers return again and again to be delighted by our friendly train crew, our historic trains and the beautiful scenery along our route.

A visit to Delaware's historic Red Clay Valley will take you back to a simpler time when water-powered mills dotted the landscape, and served as the livelihood by which our ancestors made their living.

When the rails of the original Wilmington & Western were laid in the 1860s, none of its founders could have imagined the important role those tracks would play in the development of East Coast railroading.

The Wilmington & Western Railroad was chartered in 1867 to move goods from the mills along the Red Clay Creek to the Port of Wilmington, and officially opened for freight and passenger service on October 19, 1872.
