The new animal-drawn Ambulance (replacing the Model 1909 requiring 4 horses) was designed at the “Medical Department Equipment Laboratory”, Carlisle Barracks, Pa.

The Dodge WC-54, Ambulance, 3 ⁄ 4-ton, 4 x 4 (SNL supply catalog designation G-502), was the main military ambulance variant of the prolific Dodge WC series of light 4×4 trucks, developed during World War II.

Produced from 1942 to 1944, the Dodge WC-54 was the standard US ambulance. This ambulance, delivered April 19. 1944, was among the last WC-54s produced. Roof-mounted slings and folding-bench seating provided room for four stretchers or six seated patients.

Some were still in service with the U.S. Medical Corps during the Korean War while and others served as late as the 1960s in the armies of some European countries. The closed sheet-metal body was made by Wayne Body works.
