The West Virginia Library Association serves to empower library personnel and supporters to develop library excellence. We recognize the value that libraries bring to all of our lives. The WVLA enables libraries in West Virginia to offer open access to information resources and services to everyone.

WVLA-TV, owned by White Knight Broadcasting, Inc. first signed on air on October 16, 1971 as an ABC affiliate but converted to NBC in 1977 and has remained the NBC affiliate in Baton Rouge ever since.

The membership of the West Virginia Library Association (WVLA) is comprised of over 700 members ranging from librarians and paraprofessionals to trustees and friends. WVLA is organized into five divisions: Academic Libraries, Friends & Trustees, Public Libraries, School Libraries, and Special Libraries.

WVLA NBC Local 33 is a TV station licensed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, broadcasting on virtual channel 33. WVLA is an affiliate of NBC and carries 3 additional subchannels: Laff, Ion, and Antenna TV.

Since 1990, the West Virginia Library Association has worked to increase the number of librarians in the State of West Virginia by awarding scholarships to WVLA members pursuing a masters’ degree from an ALA-accredited institution or approved library certificate program.
