PAX Quiet – Basic Recipe. When you need students’ attention quickly, blow the harmonica, raise your hand in PAX, and wait for everyone’s attention. Thank students for their quick response and cooperation. Be sure to have everyone’s attention before delivering instructions.

PAX Quiet is used to quiet the class, get children’s attention, and get them ready for learning. The PAX Quiet signal is a two-fingered peace sign along with a short note on a harmonica. Children earn recognition for quick responses to the cue. Reduces the transition time from one task to the next from minutes to seconds.

The purpose of PAX Quiet is to gain students' attention in order to give verbal instructions or initiate a transition--not to quiet students down per se. PAX Voices are for setting the level of sound and you can use it to explain the expectation voice level for a task.
