The stars in NGC 2264 are both smaller and larger than the Sun, ranging from some with less than a tenth the mass of the Sun to others containing about seven solar masses.

2023年12月3日 · I decided to try and photograph a new to me target NGC 2264, The Cone Nebula and Christmas Tree Star Cluster. I figured as Christmas approaches this would be a good target to pursue. I shot this target for three nights during a full moon. I'm very impressed with the L-Ultimate filter. All the information about the picture is below.

2023年1月10日 · Located about 2,500 light-years away toward the constellation of the Unicorn (Monoceros), the Cone Nebula's conical pillar extends about 7 light-years. The massive star NGC 2264 IRS, is the likely source of the wind sculpting the Cone Nebula and lies off the top of the image. The Cone Nebula's reddish veil is produced by glowing hydrogen gas.

2021年12月21日 · NGC 2264 actually has a number of objects, and really, the "Christmas tree cluster" is the cluster of stars, not the nebula. But turned this way, I see a Christmas tree, don't you? A small amount of Oxygen-III in the heart of the nebula glows purple, otherwise this nebula is almost entirely Hydrogen Alpha. Usually (and really) this is a red light.
