Open Cluster NGC 2175 (also known as OCL 476 or Cr 84) is an open cluster in the Orion constellation, embedded in a diffusion nebula. It was discovered by Giovanni Batista Hodierna before 1654 and independently discovered by Karl Christian Bruhns in 1857.

2025年1月27日 · To celebrate its 24th year in orbit, the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has released this beautiful new image of part of NGC 2174, also known as the Monkey Head Nebula. NGC 2174 lies about 6400 light-years away in the constellation of Orion (The Hunter).

NGC 2175 is a young star cluster and active star-forming region enveloped in an H-II region. The radio source 3C 153.1 is also located here. The distance is about 1.6 to 2.2 kpc, about 5200 to 7100 light years.

Star Cluster NGC 2175, a lesser known jewel in the constellation of Orion, is associated with a diffuse nebula, known as the Monkey Head Nebula, also numbered NGC 2175 and including nebula NGC 2174 along the right of the image.

2023年12月26日 · Only 6,350 light years away, the Monkey Head Nebula is bright and easy to photograph, especially with narrowband filters (Hydrogen-Alpha, Sulphur-II, and Oxygen-III). This cosmic wonder isn’t just a pretty face; it’s a fascinating open cluster and emission nebula teeming with young, hot stars and swirling clouds of gas and dust.

NGC 2175 is a Star Cluster + Nebula in the Orion constellation. NGC 2175 is situated close to the celestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year.

The Emission Nebula NGC 2175 (Monkey Head Nebula) was the highlight of the night. This moon-sized nebula was not at all difficult in the 110mm refractor on a very transparent night at a local Park. Its full extent was helped with a OIII nebula filter. NGC 2175 is part of a larger Emission (H-II Region) Nebula called Sharpless 2-252.

This region, often referred to as the “Monkey Head Nebula” due to its shape in images, is a part of a larger nebula complex filled with glowing gas and newly formed stars.

2017年12月29日 · NGC 2175 and NGC 2174. The first stop on the tour is the nebula NGC 2175 at the top of the upraised “club” of Orion. It’s about 1.5 o east-northeast of χ2 (chi-2) Orionis. At 7th magnitude, the nebula is bright enough to discern without a filter in reasonably dark sky.
