Curious Linux user - Is Gentoo worth it - Reddit
2020年9月14日 · In some sense LFS is simpler (and requires less knowledge) than Gentoo because to build and use it, you only need to know how vanilla Linux works. On the other hand, to use Gentoo, you need to know both vanilla Linux and the Portage system (USE flags etc.) The latter is certainly non-trivial.

Gentoo makes you feel like programmer, except you rarely write any code yourself. Edit: I'd stay with Ubuntu if it weren't run by idiots and would be using Fedora if dnf wasn't so painfully slow. Edit: If you want to learn how Linux works, Gentoo is fine choice. But let me tell you, Linux isn't very elegant operating system.

2021年7月6日 · Many years ago when I was new to Linux, I gave Gentoo a shot. It was from one of those Linux Bible books that explains about a dozen different distros to try (even had some on an included DVD and CD). 2022年8月28日 · Gentoo's community is friendlier, especially if you're doing something weird - possibly because Gentoo is designed for every user to have an almost completely different system configuration. Arch folk often ask us about some equivalent to AUR, and Gentoo's answer is GURU plus a whole slew of other third-party repositories
Why use gentoo? : r/Gentoo - Reddit
I use both gentoo (on my pc) and arch (on my laptop). The main difference is that gentoo compiles everything from source, this makes gentoo even more customizable. You can set compile time flags (USE flags) systemwide or per package and …

So you use Gentoo... Why? : r/Gentoo - Reddit
2020年11月15日 · I could compile a kernel in other Linux distro's, but Gentoo makes it easier, whereas other's make it harder. Getting comfortable with the command-line is a big plus, and realizing that command-line tools often work better than their graphical counterparts. but mostly Gentoo doesn't force things on me that I'd rather not use.
