This medium-sized gecko is easily identified by the pairs of black spots along its ventral surface, and by the black 'W' at the back of the neck. This nocturnal species occurs in lowland forest, both primary and secondary, as well as rock crevices, old buildings and road culverts.

2024年5月24日 · Herein we report on a specimen of Gekko monarchus that was retrieved from the stomach of a road-killed C. paradisi in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, and compare it with other prey reported for this species.

Chou (1975) indicated that the numbers of G. monarchus decreased since Sworder (1925 a) due to rapid urbanisation, a position shared by Koh (1986) who asserted that G. monarchus was rarely found in Singapore due to a loss of natural habitat.
