The EMD F125 "Spirit" is a four-axle passenger diesel locomotive manufactured by Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) for the North American market since 2015. It is powered by a Caterpillar C175-20 V20 diesel engine rated at 4,700 hp (3,500 kW).

The F125 Baden-Württemberg-class frigates are a series of frigates (regarded as destroyers by some analysts due to their size) of the German Navy, which were designed and constructed by ARGE F125, a joint-venture of Thyssen-Krupp and Lürssen.

The EMD® F125 is the first new EPA Tier 4 passenger locomotive to be sold in the world. At 125 mph, it’s the highest performing diesel-electric locomotive in North America. And, while offering 4,700 horsepower, it still weighs only 280,000 pounds.

2016年5月11日 · The new class is developed by ARGE F125, a joint-venture of Thyssen-Krupp Marine Systems (including Blohm + Voss and Nordseewerke) and Lürssen Werft. The pre-fitted bow sections are being manufactured at the Fr. Lürssen Werft shipyards in Bremen and Wolgast.

Not only was it EMD's first new passenger diesel design for the domestic market since 20 years, the F125 was also the first Tier 4 compliant passenger diesel developed by the American manufacturer. Tier 4 emission legislation is comparable to Stage IIIb emission standards in the European Union.
