USS Valley Forge (CV/CVA/CVS-45, LPH-8) was one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers built during and shortly after World War II for the United States Navy. The ship was the first US Navy ship to bear the name, and was named after Valley Forge, the 1777–1778 winter encampment of General George Washington's Continental Army.

Named for the Revolutionary War encampment of the same name, this ship was commissioned in November 1946. In 1947, she transferred to the Pacific fleet. After making a round the world cruise in the late 1940’s, the ship was deployed to the Western Pacific.

2025年3月16日 · USS Valley Forge (CV-45) leaves San Diego, Calif., 6 December 1950, to urgently return to the Korean War zone for her second tour of combat duty, following a quick replenishment visit to the U.S. west coast.

Redesignated as attack aircraft carrier CVA 45 on October 1, 1952, and antisubmarine warfare aircraft carrier CVS 45 on January 1, 1954, the VALLEY FORGE was converted to an amphibious assault ship (helicopter) between March and July 1961 and served as LPH 8 until decommissioned in January 1970.

The USS VALLEY FORGE CV-45 was named to commemorate the Winter Encampment of General George Washington's Continental Army during the winters of (1777-78). This encampment is now a U.S. National Park located in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

2019年10月3日 · USS Valley Forge (CV-45) was the final Essex-class aircraft carrier to enter service with the US Navy. Though intended for use during World War II, the carrier was not completed until late 1946, long after hostilities had ended.
