Arid Peak Lookout was restored to its original splendor in 1997 and is available for rent to the public. The lookout is listed on the National Register of Historic Lookouts and provides epic 360 degree views of the Bitterroot Mountains.

The lookout offers access to the Arid Peak Trail #173, Mozier Peak Trail #174, and Kyle Creek Trail #175. All three trails are great for day-hiking, but can also be explored over longer backpacking treks or on horseback.

2021年8月5日 · Arid Peak Lookout is a 1934 20′ L-4, originally built to watch for fires from the Milwaukee Railroad as it came down Loop Creek from the Montana line to the North Fork of the St. Joe River near Avery, Idaho.

The lookout on Arid Peak was placed within a roadless area overlooking the Milwaukee Road Railroad to provide early detection of train fires. The 20’ L-4 hip-roof cab with catwalk was built in 1931 and the tower legs replaced in 1969.

Arid Peak Lookout is set on a 20 foot tower and overlooks the beautiful Loop Creek area and the scenic “Route of the Hiawatha rail-trail”. It is on the National Historic Register of Fire Lookouts. Getting to the lookout requires a moderate 3 mile hike. See the directions below.

2021年8月24日 · The Arid Peak Lookout in the Idaho Panhandle National Forest was built in 1934 to help spot wildfires that may have been sparked by the Milwaukee Railroad Line. In 1969 its doors were closed and remained so for more than 25 years before its renovation.

Arid Peak Lookout is located in the St. Joe Ranger District, Idaho Panhandle National Forests (1 hr 37 min east of Coeur d'Alene, ID) with an elevation of 5,275 feet. The site is normally open from the end of June to the end of September. There is a fee of $45.00 per night.
