2023年10月9日 · The ZTZ96 or Type 96, officially ZTZ1996式主战坦克 (ZTZ1996 Type Main Battle Tank), is one of the many main battle tank (MBT) models currently used by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

2024年10月19日 · The ZTZ96 / Type 96 tank is powered by a liquid-cooled 1,000hp diesel engine, providing a power to weight ratio of about 24.1hp/t. The engine can be replaced within 40 minutes in field conditions, and gives the tank a maximum road speed of 65km/h.

Introduced in Update 1.93 "Shark Attack", the ZTZ96 boasts a distinctive appearance and introduces several features unseen in previous Chinese medium tanks. While its general layout resembles the Soviet T-72, it exhibits significant differences in turret and hull design.

The first-line armoured divisions in active service today within the Chinese People's Liberation Army are equipped with 2,500 Type 96 MBTs. The much upgraded Type 98/99s are in comparison only reserved to elite units of the army. The Type 96 is also a far away descendant of the soviet T-54A.

Its internal electronics may also have been upgraded to Type 99 standard. The main armament of the ZTZ96A or Type 96A is composed of a smoothbore 125 mm gun with an autoloader of Russian 2A46M design.

Introduced in Update "Wind of Change", the ZTZ96A (P) is a prototype of the ZTZ96A. It features a distinct turret armour arrangement compared to its production counterpart: instead of the arrowhead-shaped ERA mount, it boasts high-hardness spaced armour in an unusual "needle-nose" profile reminiscent of the Chieftain 's silhouette.
