WOR-FM: A Brief History by Allan Sniffen In 1966 the Federal Communications Commission ruled that major market FM radio stations could no longer simulcast their AM sister stations.

As is the case with all radio stations, untouched airchecks are the best way to remember WOR-FM. They are listed chronologically here so you can get a sense for how the station sounded as time progressed.

WOR-FM Marty Brooks Collection Marty Brooks is a big fan of the original WOR-FM. Through the years he saved some fascinating information from its progressive rock era from 1966 to 1967.

Things have changed at 99X by now. The station is quieter both in style and in its music. It's now referred to as "99X-FM". Bobby Rich is PD having arrived in February, 1978 from San Diego. One of the challenges at 99X was to make the station appeal to somewhat older listeners.

WOR-FM Tommy Edwards Page. Tommy Edwards is a legendary Top 40 radio personality who spent 50 years in radio including stops at WOR-FM/NY, WLS/Chicago, WODS/Boston, KCBS-FM/L.A. and finally at WJMK/Chicago (among others).
