2011年10月26日 · We've seen surprising amounts of air movement coming up from under concrete floor slabs during blower door tests, we now mandate taping all vapor barrier seams, and then crucially bringing the sheet plastic up from under the slab and taped to the wall air barrier to ensure under-slab air never gets brought into the inside of the house.

2023年6月1日 · He noted he will have to cut slits in the plastic to allow for concrete to flow under and fill voids that are beneath the foam. I’m not concerned with the slits, but am wondering if others have had similar issues of constructibility of this detail (thickened footing, under slab insulation and vapor barrier transition, see attached photo/detail.)

2021年7月29日 · In lieu of the 6 mill polyethene that was never installed under the slab, they want a 4-mill poly on top, or an ASTM E96 topical vapor barrier of .06 perms or less. In the past I’ve used a vented insulated floor system (like DriCore R+) without any special attention to a vapor barrier. In fact DriCore prohibits adding a second vapor barrier.

2009年11月4日 · The vapor (really a radon and ground-water) barrier under a slab should be either immediately under the concrete or under tongue & groove XPS with taped seams. Placing an impermeable membrane under the fill creates a reservoir for water (much worse with sand fill because of greater capillarity).

It makes a big difference to the person finishing the floor as it takes a lot longer for the bleed water to disappear when it can only go up. Regardless, you’ll want to talk to have a plan how to best cure the slab.

Main (existing house) is 1960s, no with no poly under the basement slab obviously. But we’d like to finish the new basement. Should I have him remove the slab and start over?

It would seem to make sense and be correct but many internet pics show it stopping at the slab before the foundation. The contractors I have been querying about the job don’t think a barrier is needed- they don’t normally do them etc.
