Scarabs are quadrupedal mining platforms that are part of a larger class of constructs known as Excavators. Out of nine tiers of Excavators they are classed tier-four on its scale. Scarabs are all fitted with a focus cannon for destroying targets or mining operations. [1] .

Scarabs are extremely powerful, possessing an exceptionally destructive plasma beam (mounted onto its "head"), as well as one or two dorsally-mounted anti-air cannons. Their "bodies" are massive and multi-leveled and posses four legs. Unlike most Covenant vehicles, Scarabs do not use anti-gravity propulsion to move.
