RAD51 - Wikipedia
In humans, RAD51 is a 339- amino acid protein that plays a major role in homologous recombination of DNA during double strand break repair. In this repair process, an ATP-dependent DNA strand exchange takes place in which a template strand invades base-paired strands of homologous DNA molecules.
RAD51 Gene Family Structure and Function - PMC
RAD51 is an ATPase that forms a nucleoprotein filament on single-stranded DNA. RAD51 has the function of finding and invading homologous DNA sequences to enable accurate and timely DNA repair. Its paralogs, which arose from ancient gene duplications of RAD51, have evolved to regulate and promote RAD51 function.
RAD51 Gene - GeneCards | RAD51 Protein | RAD51 Antibody
2024年12月25日 · The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the RAD51 protein family. RAD51 family members are highly similar to bacterial RecA and Saccharomyces cerevisiae Rad51, and are known to be involved in the homologous recombination and repair of DNA.
RAD51: Beyond the break - PMC
As the primary catalyst of homologous recombination (HR) in vertebrates, RAD51 has been extensively studied in the context of repair of double-stranded DNA breaks (DSBs). With recent advances in the understanding of RAD51 function extending beyond DSBs, the importance of RAD51 throughout DNA metabolism has become increasingly clear.
RAD51 gene - MedlinePlus
The RAD51 gene provides instructions for making a protein that is essential for repairing damaged DNA. Breaks in DNA can be caused by natural and medical radiation or other environmental exposures, and also occur when chromosomes exchange genetic material in preparation for cell division.

The Emerging Roles of Rad51 in Cancer and Its Potential as a ...
Rad51 recombinase is a critical effector of homologous recombination, which is an essential DNA repair mechanism for double-strand breaks. Rad51 has been found to be upregulated in many malignant solid tumors, and is correlated with poor prognosis. In multiple tumor types, Rad51 is critical for tumor metabolism, metastasis and drug resistance.
The RAD51 recombinase protects mitotic chromatin in human …
2021年9月10日 · In this study, we show that RAD51 protects under-replicated DNA in mitotic human cells and, in this way, promotes mitotic DNA synthesis (MiDAS) and successful chromosome segregation. In cells...
RAD51 - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
Rad51 is a mammalian homologue of yeast RAD51 and bacterial RecA and, like its counterparts, plays a central role in HR. Rad51 coats ssDNA to form a nucleoprotein filament that invades and pairs with a homologous region in duplex DNA.
