Byron (BY-run) is a village in Shiawassee County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 581 at the 2010 census. The village is located within Burns Township. [4] Founded in 1824, Byron received its first postmaster in 1837.

Shiawassee County takes its name from the Shiawassee River, which enters the county near the southeast corner, passes through the villages of Byron and Vernon, the cities of Corunna and Owosso, and flows north into the Saginaw Bay. The name of Shiawassee is derived from Indian lore, meaning “Rolling” or “Sparkling Waters.”
