Mark you're right I should have indicated the best fighter of all time. I do believe that pound for pound Shozo Fuji is certainly the best or one of the best; he has been the world champion 4 times in a row for the middleweight class from 1971 to 1979. 8 years in the most competitive class. He had an amazing morote seoi nage.

In terms of judo mastery Mifune, Kotani and the three recent 10th Dan promotees come to mind. Of the three recent promotees the less-celebrated (cf Abbe and Daigo) Yoshimi Osawa enbodies all that is best about judo. This is a URL for a classic video of Mifune.

2017年9月9日 · He was a funny guy and one of our best Judoka dude. He left Kadena sometime in 1961 but not before our club and their club became close. He transferred to Tachikawa and we would meet with his gang up there during 5th Air Force tournaments. Like many of us Judoka in those years we would get together at times and have a great time BS'ing.

2002年3月21日 · Does anyone know who the oldest active Judoka is. I would like to nominate Robin Gell 4th Dan (British Judo Association) 65 years old. When I say active Robin trains twice a week. He will take on anyone and everyone. He is still a real handful and it is impossible to take it easy with him. If you do it is at your peril Robin will nail you.

Kano was judoka all right, but he was jujutsuka before this system and held teaching licenses in at least two ryu, and it did not take long for others to adopt this system of grading, some giving the reason that it was easier to deal with than was the old time consuming menkyo scrolls, etc. [Edited by MarkF on 07-22-2000 at 02:57 AM]
