If a 7.3 is marking its territory its 99% something else leaking rather then the rear main seal. 95% of the time its coming from the valley somewhere, the other 4 percent are from leaky rail plugs,oil cooler, or oil pan rusted out, and the other 1% is a rear main leaking.

2011年11月15日 · From personal experience, check the engine valley for oil first. It is fairly rare to have a rear main leaking on these trucks. There is a drain hole on the back of the valley that lets the oil that is usually leaking out of your hpop drain down the back of the engine and between the it and the trans and looks like a rear main.

2012年3月9日 · It would basically press the new wear ring/seal assembly flush with the end of the crank. I'm talking about that 1" thick spacer that goes up against the flexplate. Others talk about using some special installation tool for pressing the new seal assembly on with.

2009年5月6日 · rear seal is on the back of the engine, under the flex plate, its what seals off the oil where the crankshaft protrudes through the back of the block. it should be sealed onto the rear mounting plate with sealant. also the wear ring should be placed in the oven to expand the metel before you put it on the crank that way you can easly slide it into place. i realy never seen one …

This winter I had the oil pan replaced along with a new transmission. Of course with replacing the oil pan the rear main was replaced also.
