Appearing in the Toyota 86 (also known as the Toyota GT 86 in Europe, Scion FR-S in the US and Subaru BRZ), the 4U-GSE is a boxer type engine with four cylinders and a bore and stroke of 86 mm (3.39 in).

The Subaru FA20D / Toyota 4U-GSE is a 2.0 L (1,998 cc, 121.9 cu·in) horizontally-opposed (“flat-four” or “boxer”) four-stroke natural aspirated gasoline engine from the Subaru FA-family. This engine is identified by a Toyota engine family code as the 4U-GSE, which is installed in the Toyota 86 and the Scion FR-S.

The new Subaru 2.0-liter engine FA20 was developed for the joint project of Subaru and Toyota (4U-GSE). Subaru FA20 engine application is the Subaru BRZ model - light and sporty coupe. Toyota 4U-GSE engine is installed in the Toyota 86 and the Scion FR-S.

Now a boxer-style four-cylinder, the 4U-GSE is identical to the Subaru FA20 and is built at Subaru's Ota Gunma plant. The engine uses Subaru's boxer framework, but is mostly Toyota-derived design for its parts, including the D4-S direct and port injection system and high compression ratio (12.5:1).

2013年4月25日 · There is no difference between the engine codes FA20 and 4U-GSE. 4U-GSE is the engine code used by Toyota/Scion and FA20 is the engine code used by Subaru. Same 2.0L Flat 4 engine.
