Stephen K. Lundquist (born February 20, 1961) is an American former competition swimmer who is an Olympic gold medalist and former world record-holder. At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, he won gold medals in the 100-meter breaststroke and the 400-meter medley relay.

Steve Lundquist is a 1984 Olympic gold medalist in the 100m breaststroke and 4x100m medley relay and the first man to break two minutes in the 200y breaststroke. A Georgia native, Lundquist graduated from Jonesboro High School where he went on to earn his BBA from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in 1984.

Steve Lundquist -- in swim speak, “Lunk the Hunk” -- also lost out on competing with his USA Team in Moscow in 1980. But in .84 at the LA Olympic Games, Steve emerged as the best American breaststroker in the history of international swimming.

Steve was the first man in the world to break two minutes for the 200 yard breaststroke. “Lundquist can swim and win anything he wants to train for,” said Hall of Fame Honor Coach Walt Schlueter. He was almost as brilliant in the freestyle sprints and butterfly as he was in his breaststroke specialty.

For about five years in the early 80s, Lundquist was the world’s greatest breaststroker, mainly over 100 metres. Between 1982-84 he set five world records in the 100 breaststroke, with his last coming in his gold medal swim at the 1984 Olympics, which stood until 1989.
