Shell ended offshore exploration drilling operations in Alaska in 2015. We hold one licence interest in the North Slope area of Alaska. In 2020, we received regulatory approval to combine our near-shore leases in West Harrison Bay into a single unit and we are currently seeking a co-owner to operate the unit.

On May 6 operator and 100% owner Shell Offshore Inc. surrendered its 18 leases in the nearshore West Harrison Bay unit, or WHBU, to the State of Alaska, the notice of which was posted May 14 on the Alaska Department of Natural Resources' Division of Oil and Gas website.

Exploration in Alaska We operated for almost 50 years off the coast of Alaska, including the Cook Inlet and the Beaufort and Chukchi seas, until 1998. Between 2005 and 2012, we acquired our current portfolio, which includes 339 federal leases for exploration in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas, and 18 state leases in North Slope coastal waters.
