It is a Benedictine Abbey founded in the 18th century by a German nobleman. The basilica is adorned with dome and ceiling frescoes and altar pictures all from local and Tyrol artists. The outside view of this immense Benedictine abbey with basilica alone is worth the trip or a detour. Unfortunately, restoration work was underway in the basilica and one could only take a look from the portal without actually being able to enter. The adjacent museum in the 490 m long and 430 m wide abbey is worth a visit.
