In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he is described as the son of Lehi, a prophet, and the founder of the Nephite people. The Book of Mormon also describes him as the author of its first two books, First and Second Nephi. In the narrative, Nephi's family flees Jerusalem as commanded by God but returns twice.
