The Volkswagen Golf Mk2 is a hatchback, ... The successful Golf GTI (or, in the US, simply "GTI") was continued with the Mk2 as a sporty 3- or 5-door hatchback. Like late Mk1 GTIs, it featured a naturally aspirated Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injected 1781 cc inline-four engine developing 112 PS (82 kW; 110 hp).

The second generation Golf GTI was introduced in 1984. Known as the Mk2 GTI, early models were fitted with a 1.8L inline four featuring Bosch fuel injection. Later models were available with a more powerful 16 valve engine, and sported indicative "16V" badging.
