A member of the Iris family, Crocosmia paniculata is a herbaceous evergreen perennial that typically grows in clumps. Its name comes from the Greek words krokos and osme, referring to saffron and the odor of dried leaves.

Crocosmia paniculata is a bulbous flowering plant that is native to eastern South Africa, Lesotho, and Eswatini, growing in wet areas by streams, marshes, and drainages. Plants reach 4 to 5 ft (1.2–1.5 m) tall, with lanceolate leaves and deep orange to orange-brown flowers.

Crocosmia paniculata is a robust, deciduous geophyte with sculptural, zig-zag flower spikes and attractive, pleated leaves that make it a strong accent plant for mixed borders and rockeries in temperate gardens.

C. paniculata has alternating flowers of deep orange on erect, branching spikes. It flowers in summer, and grows to about 3 feet tall. This variety is not readily available, though it may be sold as Curtonus paniculatus.

2012年9月14日 · These include Crocosmia aurea, Crocosmia pottsii, Crocosmia masoniorum and Crocosmia paniculata, the first two have smooth leaves (see above photos) and the latter two species can be easily recognised by their pleated leaves (see below photos). There have been many crosses between them.
