Chloroform as a solvent? | Student Doctor Network
2009年6月16日 · eh, well, chloroform is considered to be an organic (nonpolar) solvent. It has low solubility in water (they aren't miscible, it's something like 8 mg/mL in water, which isn't very high). Now, that being said, chloroform has weak polarity, and thus it will dissolve some moderately polar molecules.
Polarity of solvent for TLC | Student Doctor Network
2015年12月2日 · Let's say if you developed a TLC plate and you saw all the dots very close to the bottom of the plate. This means that the solvent wasn't polar enough to kick off the polar compound off the silica or alumina and move it further up the plate. So in this case, you would have a lower rf value since the molecules did not travel far.
