2015年8月27日 · I've done a few and it takes planning to understand how a hinge works. What I did was put 2 sheets of paper butted together. One piece is fixed (that part is the cowl, firewall etc on the body) the piece butted to it is the front end. Using a thumbtack as the hinge place it in different places and lift the front end off by rotating the paper.

2020年12月10日 · The Willy's in my Avatar has a glass, tilt front end. To give it strength and keep it strong I bent & glued 1/2" copper tubing all the way around the perimeter, inside wheel wheels, etc. After that we glassed over the copper tubing, sanded and contoured the inside lip & painted.

2007年12月25日 · There are 2 struts in front that the front bumper bolts to. Those rest in a cradle with a pin throught it to hinge. The front bumper gives the whole front rigidity, so it's not all floppy. Also the way the bimper is on there, with the front is open the bumper hits on the bottom of the hinge, so there are no cables or anything required.

2021年1月31日 · We made a tilt front end a little more complicated than yours but it also allows one person to operate it but like you, when asked about making another, you almost have to do these as one off. The time it took us (as it seems for you also) would make another too expensive for someone else to have one done.

2010年8月19日 · I built a tilt front end for a 71 Chevelle I had and I made the mistake of welding the hood to the fenders. I forgot that by doing that I narrowed the front clip by double the normal hood/fender gap.It didn't fit as good as it should have. I made a frame out of 1 inch square tubing to brace it and used liftgate struts to hold it up.

2009年4月23日 · Guys Im having the same problem with my 55 chev. Some one left about two inches of the original steering shaft coming out of the steering box and threw a 63 buick tilt colum in it. Im having trouble connecting the two together. Does any one have some pics of some ideas. I want to be safe And the two last people that did the job. Its just not right.

2009年9月3日 · I used the heavy duty springs from jcwhitney and the original "c" type ball joint spacers. it raised the front end sky high. The suspension was very stiff. You can adjust the camber angle with the original "c" type ball joint spacers. the only thing is you have have to remove a piece of metal that is riveted to the frame.

2010年11月17日 · I like the looks of the early truck axles myself. I got a great deal on a Ford F1 axle that the previous owner replaced with a MII front end. Pretty much the same width as the chevy truck axle which was close to 60" , same width as the 55 front end. The speedway 50" axle comes out to 58 1/2".

One other thing that always works nice on tilt-nose '56: There's a stock piece of stainless for the front fender that's used to break up a 2-tone paint job.
